Best Time to Visit

April–May is tulip season — the Keukenhof gardens are in full bloom and the city buzzes with energy. Temperatures are mild (10–18°C) and the light on the canals is perfect for photography.

June–August brings warm weather (up to 22°C) and long days. In peak season Anne Frank House tickets sell out well ahead — book as early as you can.

September–October is the local favourite: fewer crowds, golden light on the canals and the museum season in full swing. Ideal weather for cycling through Vondelpark.

Getting Around Amsterdam

Bicycle is king — Amsterdam has 800km of cycle paths and bike rental shops on almost every street. It's the fastest, most authentic way to explore the city.

Trams & Metro cover the centre thoroughly. A GVB day pass is the easiest option if you plan several rides. The I Amsterdam City Card includes unlimited public transport.

On foot is perfect for the canal ring area — the historic centre is compact and flat. From Schiphol Airport, the train to Centraal Station takes 17 minutes.
