Why visit
Singapore?

Singapore is one of the world's most remarkable cities — a tiny island state that has reinvented itself as a global hub for business, culture, food and nature. The futuristic Gardens by the Bay, with its climate-controlled biomes and 50-metre Supertrees, are like nothing else on earth.

Sentosa Island offers Universal Studios and world-class resorts; the Marina Bay waterfront is lined with architectural icons; and Singapore's hawker centres serve some of Asia's finest food at prices that make European visitors feel pleasantly deceived. The city is exceptionally clean, safe and easy to navigate.

When to Visit & How to Get Around

Best Time to Visit

February–April The driest and most comfortable months — humidity is slightly lower (still warm at 27–32°C) and rainfall is at its least frequent. Chinese New Year in February transforms Chinatown with lanterns and street markets.

July–September Still warm and manageable — the Southwest Monsoon brings some rain but Singapore's showers are typically short and intense. The National Day celebrations in August are spectacular.

November–January Northeast Monsoon season — more frequent rain, but Singapore's indoor attractions (Gardens biomes, museums, Universal Studios) make any weather workable. Hotel rates are often lower and gardens are lush.

Getting Around

MRT (Metro) Singapore's MRT is world-class — clean, punctual, air-conditioned and extensive. An EZ-Link card (SGD 12 including SGD 7 credit) is essential. Most attractions are within a 10-minute walk of an MRT station. Single trip: SGD 0.90–2.20.

Grab (ride-share) Grab is Singapore's dominant ride-share app — safe, metered and readily available. From Changi Airport to Marina Bay: ~SGD 20–30 (€14–21). Useful for areas not directly on the MRT, like certain parts of Jurong.

Changi Airport Changi consistently ranks as the world's best airport — Terminal 5 opens in 2028. The Jewel Changi indoor waterfall and gardens are worth visiting even if you're not flying. MRT from airport to city centre: 30 min, SGD 2.10.

Singapore's Essential Neighbourhoods

Marina Bay

The futuristic centrepiece — the Marina Bay Sands resort (infinity pool, casino, shopping), the ArtScience Museum, the futuristic Flower Dome biome and the evening Spectra light show on the waterfront. Unmissably photogenic.

Sentosa Island

Singapore's resort island connected by cable car and monorail — Universal Studios Singapore, S.E.A. Aquarium, Adventure Cove Waterpark, casino and a series of beach clubs. Best with a full day (or two).

Chinatown & Little India

Singapore's most atmospheric heritage districts — incense-filled temples, hawker centres with extraordinary food, colourful shophouses and the Sri Mariamman Temple (Singapore's oldest Hindu temple). Best explored on foot.

Gardens by the Bay

The crown jewel of modern Singapore — 101 hectares of reclaimed land with the iconic Supertree Grove (illuminated nightly), the Cloud Forest and Flower Dome biomes, and the OCBC Skyway aerial walkway.

Singapore Travel Questions Answered

Singapore is pricier than its Southeast Asian neighbours but comparable to a Western European city. The secret is hawker centres — extraordinary food for SGD 4–8 (€3–6) per dish. A full day of attractions (Gardens by the Bay + Universal Studios) costs SGD 80–150 per person.
Citizens of most Western countries (EU, UK, USA, Australia) receive a 30-day visa-free entry stamp on arrival. Always check current requirements on the ICA Singapore website before travel.
Exceptionally so — Universal Studios, S.E.A. Aquarium, Singapore Zoo, Night Safari and the Gardens by the Bay are all excellent family attractions. The city is extremely safe, clean and easy to navigate with children.
UNESCO-recognised hawker centres are open-air food courts serving extraordinary local dishes at low prices. Must-tries: Hainanese chicken rice, laksa, char kway teow, chilli crab and kaya toast with soft-boiled eggs. Maxwell Food Centre and Newton Circus are tourist-friendly favourites.
MRT train from Changi Airport to City Hall takes about 30 minutes and costs SGD 2.10. Grab or taxi costs SGD 20–30 depending on destination. The journey is seamless — Changi's MRT station is directly integrated with the terminal.
